FESTIVALS
The Explanation
Throughout the teachings of the Bible, parties and festivals are a common theme that can be seen repeatedly. For example, in the Old Testament, God instructed us to hold week-long festivals to worship and celebrate what he had done.
There were seven significant festivals seen in Old Testament that followed in calendar order. They were Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Booths (Tabernacles or Ingathering).
The idea of parties and celebration is also seen in the New Testament, demonstrated in the life of Jesus, especially seen in the book of Luke.
Carefully think about the following verses from the Bible about celebrations.
Luke 15:23-24 (NIV) - “Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”
Philippians 4:4 (NIV) - “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
Psalm 118:24-25 (NIV) - “The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. Lord, save us! Lord, grant us success!”
