HOSPITALITY
The Explanation
Throughout the 2,000 years of the church's history, Christians have followed the example of Jesus and the early church to show hospitality to others. Eating is something we all have in common, and gathering around food can be a powerful way to express God's love to one another, including those who are still on the journey of finding God.
The Bible has many verses about the importance of being hospitable. Here are two key passages for us to consider:
Romans 12:13–16 (NIV) - “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.”
The Practice
Intentionally invite others to eat and drink with you; this could be at a restaurant or in your home
When offering hospitality, consider these things:
People far from God
People close to God
Be generous as you show hospitality
Have fun as you build healthy friendships
(NOTE - please make sure you show hospitality responsibly with safety in mind)
