YOUR WORK MATTERS
The Explanation
It is exciting to know that ‘being called’ by God is something for every follower of Jesus to experience, and not only for those who are part of the church staff team. At IKON Church, we hope to encourage every person with the following words found in our mission statement.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT SAYS -
BUILDING RELEVANT CONTEMPORARY CHURCHES, REACHING PEOPLE WITH THE MESSAGE OF JESUS AND EMPOWERING THEM TO LEAD IN EVERY SPHERE OF LIFE AND INFLUENCE THE WORLD.
You can serve God through the gifts and talents that He has given you, no matter what they look like. For example, you could work in sales, or emergency services, be a teacher, a CEO, a politician, a stay-at-home parent or something else. We have all been given the amazing opportunity to reach people with the message of Jesus right where we are. Not only that, but we can also be the people who bring heaven to earth in our workplaces, homes, streets and communities.
For the last two millennia, the Church has been bringing change in our world and will continue to do so through you as you play your part in society.
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.”
The Practice
Meditate on the words found in Romans 12
Give thanks for your gifts and God’s calling in your life
Take a few moments daily to acknowledge and accept that what you do is significant
Daily pray for those you work with and the role you play
Explore possible opportunities where you can bring positive and godly change
Ask God for His courage to let others know about faith
